“I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And what I can do, I ought to do. And what I ought to do, by the grace of God, I shall do.” - Edward Everett Hale (1822 – 1909)
Here at New Road we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and doing all we can to protect God's green Earth. To assist in this we are partaking in A Rocha Eco Church programme. So far we have received our Bronze award but we are working towards Silver slowly.
In the past year we have begun to create wild flower spaces at the rear of our church, we have hung an insect hotel, which seems well received, and an open nesting box for the birds. We are also creating a prayer space with a bench and prayer rocks.
We have run numerous fundraising events including a film afternoon with lunch and quiz night. Events like these have allowed us to twin most of our toilet cubicles with less developed areas through Tearfund. New events are currently being planned for 2024 and there are hopes for these to be in collaboration with other churches working towards the same goal.
God spoke: “Earth, green up! Grow all varieties of seed-bearing plants,
Every sort of fruit-bearing tree.” And there it was.
Earth produced green seed-bearing plants, all varieties,
And fruit-bearing trees of all sorts. God saw that it was good.
